The Washington Child Development Council (WCDC) was established in 1973 by Head Start and Model Cities Centers to promote quality child care services. It began on a volunteer basis, its mission to inform local government on critical matters relating to child care needs in an urban area. Over the past 30 years WCDC has expanded its focus to include the provision of direct services to the child care community as a whole. WCDC continues to work with government officials and concerned parents to ensure the support of quality child care programs that provide a nurturing environment which enables young children to reach their full potential.

WCDC believes that we must come together to support and establish quality early childhood programs. Unless qualified child care teachers are actively recruited and trained, our city's children and families will continue to suffer and its social structure
